Simpsons The Simpsons AnniversaryIf you like the animated television show, then you should know Simpsons.

Fox has decided that tonight is the 20th anniversary of The Simpsons, celebrating with a milestone episode at 8 and a one-hour special at 8:30.

For the first time in TV history, it seems, a network is marking an anniversary after it happened. It wouldn’t have done to waste a ratings-grabbing event on the show’s actual birthday in the middle of December, when everybody is cuckoo for Christmas.

The Simpsons is an American animated television sitcom created by Matt Groening for the Fox Broadcasting Company. The series is a satirical parody of a working class American lifestyle epitomized by its eponymous family, which consists of Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. The show is set in the fictional city of Springfield, and lampoons American culture, society, television and many aspects of the human condition.

In the opening of tonight’s 450th episode of The Simpsons, the punished Bart, as he must always do because he is such a bad boy, is writing something over and over on the blackboard. This time, it’s “The world may end in 2012, but this show won’t.”

In tonight’s episode, Krusty falls in love after the suits at his network bring in a character called Princess Penelope, deciding that his show is underperforming in the little-girl demo. Bart and his buddy Milhouse gag and eventually pull their shirts over their heads, unable to watch the lame princess parts, but little Lisa, and every other girl in the world, apparently, goes gaga when Penelope produces her unicorn.

So, let champagne and celebrate The Simpsons.
