There were 228 people on board (216 passengers and 12 crew members), Air France-KLM said. Can you imagine how you feel if you are one of the passengers family ?
Flight AF 447 left Rio de Janeiro on Sunday at 7 p.m. (0500 GMT) local time and was expected in Paris on Monday at 11:15 a.m. (0915 GMT). It was an airbus 330-200. This Air France passenger jet with 228 people on board is missing after dropping off the radar over the Atlantic off the Brazilian coast.
“The plane might have been struck by lightning. It’s a possibility,” said Francois Brousse, head of communications at Air France. Its last known location was unclear. Brazilian television said the Brazilian air force had started a search mission over the Atlantic Ocean for the plane.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy is “deeply concerned” and ordered Energy Minister Jean-Louis Borloo and Transport Minister Dominique Bussereau to the airport to monitor the situation.
